Rider Focus: Caroline Wagner

Rider Focus is a new series on Show Horses where we do a quick interview with a rider to find out a little more about what makes them tick. Our first rider is accomplished horsewoman and dressage star Caroline Wagner.

Show Horses: Where did you learn to ride?
Caroline Wagner: I learnt to ride at a riding school on the banks of the Yarra River, off Templestowe Rd, when I was 8 years old. My Mum would drop me off early Saturday morning and I would help saddle the horses and stay for the day and have a one-hour ride.

SH: Your favourite horse to date?
CW: That’s too hard I have had lots of great horses who have all given me so much pleasure – Tango, Nevada, Ark Royal, Whitsun and the list goes on. I have been very lucky!

SH: Your greatest personal achievement?
CW: That’s also hard but Dressage with Altitude winning all three Grand Prix classes with 73+% in the freestyle was great, four Garryowens, and Pope Cup at the old Sydney Showgrounds – on Good Friday at lunchtime in front of a packed Stadium was the best atmosphere and best applause ever!

SH: Where you are aiming for?
CW: Just a constant work towards always improving the connection, feel, rhythm, balance and softness with my horses and riding. I just enjoy working the horses at home daily and that special feel when you really nail a movement.

SH: Your favourite photo? We asked Caroline to provide her favourite photo, and here it is below!

Thank you Caroline for talking with us and if any readers would like to know more about a particular rider, please drop us an email at admin@showhorses.com.au

Cheers
